To provide persons served by the agency with support, direction, supervision, and training specific to the individual service plan that is based on a variety of assessments, vocational assessment instruments, team meetings and behavioral data. The service plan is developed with input from the team members and is used to drive the services provided to the person served. The Supported Employment Specialist is working under the Supervision of the Team Leader, Program Coordinator and Program Manager.

Role and Responsibilities

Job Duties

Orientation and Training

The Employment Specialist is responsible for assisting with the implementation and completion of orientation plans for persons entering, transferring to, or re-entering into agency services.

Monitoring and Tracking Progress of Persons Served

The Employment Specialist assists with the development of the Individual Service Plan and the creation of goals and objectives.

  • Administers tools that evaluate performance (i.e. observations, vocational and skill assessments, interest inventories)

  • Implements vocational plans and accurately documents progress and areas of concern

  • Implements behavioral support plans and documents progress

  • Prepares and presents progress summaries/reports at staff/team meetings as requested

  • Plans for and provides interesting and challenging activities (in alignment with the individual's plan) during downtime and free time

  • Reports all incidents/accidents to supervisors and rehab counselors in a timely manner by conveying accurate and required information. Documents on the appropriate forms and submits as required.

    Task - Monitoring Program/Work Area and Activities

    The Employment Specialist is responsible for preparing the work/activities to be completed by the individual(s) and for monitoring flow from setup to task completion. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Ensures that quality control procedures are followed and corrects/reports deficiencies immediately

  • Calculates and documents production rates in a timely and accurate manner for payroll and for work measurement (time studies)

  • Task Work Safety

    Must be familiar with all CW Resources, Inc. Health and Safety rules and regulations. Must be alert to potentially dangerous situations that may cause injury. Must know and follow all health and safety requirements required to perform stated duties. The Employment Specialist is responsible for the safety of self, co-workers, and persons served under his/her supervision.

    Specific responsibilities include:

  • Understands and maintains the required level of supervision in accordance with the individual service plan and/or as instructed by supervisor

  • Monitors persons served during work and free time and provides guidance, direction and intervention as needed

  • Provides crisis intervention and approved psychological and physical management techniques (PMT) guidance as necessary

  • Knows and protects the human rights of consumers

  • Attends to site safety concerns (i.e. removes/reports hazards and issues)

  • Task - Transportation

  • The Employment Specialist must transport individuals to and from assigned activities in a safe manner and ensure that all passengers are properly secured.

  • Must have and maintain clean, valid Public Service Drivers License in accordance with agency policy.

  • Adheres to program specific procedures regarding vehicle maintenance and care.

  • Task - Other Duties

  • Will perform any other job-related functions that are assigned by his/her supervisor.

  • Physical Demands

    The Supported Employment position can be a physically demanding position. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to reach using hands or arms. The incumbent must spend the entire time at work standing, walking, lifting heavy objects etc. The incumbent must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or more than 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. It is important to note that the Job Developer may have to transfer individuals from chairs to wheelchairs. The Supported Employment Specialist may have to attend to personal care issues of others. If an injury were to occur at work it could result in loss of work time due to causes such as back injuries, fracture, and etc.
